·  I don't have a serial port on my PC. Is the serial port required?

·  Which is faster, USB or Ethernet?
(Entry last updated on February 16th, 2002)

For loading music onto the car player, Ethernet is faster. Some people report that it's up to twice as fast as USB, or faster.

But isn't USB 12mbps? That should be 20% faster than the 10mbps ethernet on the car player.

And if we lived in a perfect world of blue skies, flowers and little fluffy bunnies, manufacturers wouldn't over-inflate hardware specifications.

USB is interrupt-driven and has a lot of overhead in its protocol, making it very CPU-bound. As a result, USB doesn't approach its theoretical maximum as often as ethernet does.
